In response to increasing environmental concern and hard economic times, golf courses are striving to improve upon environmental and economic sustainability by using low input turfgrasses and reducing maintenance inputs. In this 60-minute webinar, presented by the Oregon Fine Fescue Commission, Alec Kowalewski, Ph.D., will highlight the benefits of fine fescue as it relates to reduced inputs (i.e., irrigation, fertilization, and fungicide use) when used as a putting surface. Successful management practices for fine fescue putting greens will be covered and compared to management of other cool-season grasses on putting surfaces, such as creeping bentgrass and annual bluegrass. Several case studies collected from across the United States will also be used to document successful management of fine fescue putting greens.
